We had long rainy last morning in Rome. The person in the hotel room next door had a party all night, and we had to have our bags in the hallway by 6:30am. With a departure at 9:50am this left a lot of morning time to kill. Our intention was a walk, but then it started to rain. So we had an inactive wait for our train.
We arrived in Florence in time for lunch. More sitting! More eating! I was beginning for feel like the day was wasted.
And then, finally, we took a walk through this charming city, to see David, at the Accademie.
Of course I recognized him. I’ve seen images forever, David and many close ups of his various parts.
What I was not prepared for, though, was the size of the statue. I had never seen David in the room with people around.
David is huge! You can see the figure way down the hall, even though there are so many people heading toward it to view.
After leaving the Accademia, with only awe, we had free time in Florence. I really like it here! It is a city with students, and has a nice energy. It has a more light hearted atmosphere than Rome. We had a fun time shopping. The little medieval streets are lined with shops. The shops all have charming, artistic window displays. This is so seldom the case in my USA experience these days.
Postscript: My blog has moved. I am having a little trouble with the new editor. Sorry for the funny format. I’ll figure things out eventually.
