One tired traveler here! We had a nice breakfast, checked out of one hotel and into the one for our next group. Then we started walking.

On Sundays, traffic is closed in the Villa Borghese park and thousands of people go walking there. It was fun to be part of the crowd and see families, students and others strolling and riding bikes.

We found a grassy area with Eurasian plane trees, half of the species that makes the hybrid London Plane tree. Vassar has a huge London Plane so we were happy to see these trees, and the park is proud of them too.

The Roman umbrella pines looked especially handsome against today’s blue sky.

After a few hours, we started to amble back toward our hotel. We went through the busy Piazza Popolo (plaza of the people), where the Roman Flaminia road would have entered Rome.

That led us to the Spanish Steps which were full of people as they always are, and a lot of window shopping past designer shops.

We’ve had our orientation, welcome walk, drink and dinner with our new group.
It’s been over 7.5 city miles of walking today, so yes there was gelato. Chocolate and tiramisu for me. Chocolate and coffee for Mark.

Traveling Laura style IS exhausting- all the walking and ALSO the way you want to absorb EVERYTHING! You needed a day of pretty trees in the park and gelato!!
